Ice Man ~ What IS this thing?????
Born March 23rd of 2008, This little guy has quite the story to tell. You see, this little guy wasn't expected
to be born until the middle of April...well, with his momma's track record we weren't expecting him until
then. But I guess HE had other plans.....
Because we weren't concerned about her delivering early,
Lil Bit and a few others traveled to the Southwestern
Regional Rendezvous in Nocona, Texas. The biggest
pre-1836 historical re-enactment event of the Texas,
Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas area. Our ranch had
been asked if we would like to use the horses to make the
daily ice run, delivering ice to the vendors and people
attending the 'vous. This was very special to us, since our
horses were going to be used to represent the horses of that
era.

Working through rain, cold and mud,
Lil Bit and White
Wing Dove did their part toting the saddle packs while
delivering ice each day about noon. However, one Monday
night after working late, Susan didn't get back to camp until
almost midnight. Tired and cold, she climbed into bed only
to hear some strange noises coming from where the horses
were picketed. It seems that
Lil Bit was trying to get her
attention, so Susan got bundled up to go out and see what
all the fuss was about. It was cold, but not cold enough to
make
Lil Bit grouchy.
After a little petting and soothing talk, Bit settled right down, lying near her buddy White Wing Dove. So,
having that done, Susan went back to bed only to be rattled from her bed once again a short time later.
This was a little disconcerting to her, since the noises were starting to sound alot like labored
breathing....the kind that a woman does when she's going into labor.

After several trips to help Bit settle down, Susan finally got her blanket, went out and wrapped the
blanket around Lil Bit and herself, then settled down for a little rest. At least this way when Lil Bit decided
to start making her noises, Susan would already be there beside her. Great idea except that Susan's allergic
to  horses...and her meds don't cover this kind of extreme contact. Needless to say, she was sick as a dog
for the next three weeks.
One Tuesday morning people were worried when
the ice run was done with the use of a pickup.
After voicing her concern about what had sounded
like pre-labor pains, people offered their blessing,
prayers and love for the mares that had carried ice
for them....the horses they had petted every day
and given lettuce to as a treat...the horses they had
grown to love.

As soon as she could, Susan loaded up the
horses, threw them some hay and started for
home. Driving carefully in the wet weather, they
didn't get home until late that evening. However, a
close inspection upon arrival showed that they all
arrived home safe and sound. After telling Bobby
Cunningham (one of the Ranch Foremans) what
was going on, Susan headed back to the
Southwestern Rendezvous on Wednesday
morning.  Bobby would keep a close eye on
Lil Bit
until she got home the following Sunday.

Much to her surprise, Susan got a call early
Sunday morning. It seems that
Lil Bit had decided
to bless us with a little one. A colt that would come
to be known as the ICE MAN!
