Choctaw Cactus Queen (AKA ‘The Princess’) was foaled on April
3rd of 2006. A beautiful golden chestnut-red lineback dun tobiano paint
mare with a bald face and a strawberry blonde mane and tail, Princess
is quite a sight. She looks so much like her sire
Choctaw Rock that I
sometimes catch myself wondering why Rock is out in the pasture with
the mares.
Why do we call her ‘Princess’? Well, evidently you’ve never spent
any time around the ranch or you’d realize the reason why such a
name fits her to a tee. For she will stare in your general direction for
awhile, then gently walk up beside you, turning her head towards you
as if to say, “You may now pet me”, only to glare at you a short time
later to say, “Tribute!…Bring out those horse cookies! You must
A gentle mare that measures 14 hands at the age of three,
Princess has a long way to go before she can be as tall as her dam,
White Wing Dove. Although Dove sometimes seems larger than
life, she only measures about 15 hands tall at the shoulder.
Willing, intelligent, gentle and calm….Dove really did a great
job when she made this little girl! There’s nothing that this girl
won’t do for you….and the best part is that she’s always calm
about it. In the spring of 2009 we started Princess on her round
pen training. After a few short sessions of working with her, she's
is riding great!
In September of 2009, Princess had her first experience at
showing when we took her to the AIHR/ HOA National Show.
Although she was a little surprised that all the excitement wasn't
all about her, she took it all in stride placing in all of her events.
Here's a list of just how she did:
CHOCTAW CACTUS QUEEN (aka PRINCESS)
Placing at 2009 Nationals

FOURTH PLACE ~ SENIOR ADULT COSTUME
'O' FOALS HALTER CLASS ~ NO PLACING
SECOND PLACE ~ JUNIOR BROKEN COLOR HALTER
SENIOR ADULT FOREST ESCAPE ~ NO PLACING
SENIOR ADULT BACKFIRING THE PRAIRIE ~ NO PLACING
SIXTH PLACE ~ SENIOR ADULT TORCH RELAY (PARTNERED WITH LIL BIT)
SIXTH PLACE ~ SENIOR ADULT CHEROKEE RIBBON RACE (PARTNERED WITH FLASH)
Not bad considering that not only had she never been in an arena other than the one at the house, she'd never been in a show of any
kind! Since then we've thrown everything but the kitchen sink at Princess and we've yet to find anything that she won't accept with a
willing heart and an open mind.
What a baby they should make!
